Monday Health Tip: What is Thymol? What does it do?
At The Alkalol Company we believe in the power of natural ingredients. So we thought we’d take a look this week at one of Alkalol’s most powerful and invigorating ingredients: Thymol, a derivative of thyme oil.
Thyme is a staple in the herb garden (that’s mine above) and a flavorful culinary herb, but my great-grandfather, who first formulated Alkalol at the A.J. Barker Pharmacy in Taunton, Mass. in 1896, included thymol in his unique nasal rinse formula for its potent medicinal qualities.
Thyme, which has a long history as a medicinal plant and has been used as a natural antiseptic for thousands of years in Roman, Greek, and Indian medicine, acts as a strong antibacterial and anti-fungal ingredient. Research suggest it also has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, and counterirritant properties.
Thanks and have a healthy week!
